The Invisible Art

How can editing build tension and pace?
When you cross cut the scenes back and forth and use close-up shots and long shots on the people.

What is 'Crosscutting'?
Crosscutting is when you cut the scene to the next scene.

What are 'Reaction Shots'?
This is when you see different shots of people's faces to see their reactions.

What is 'Seamless Editing'?
In this clip, its when the editor shows the people to be little and the scenes have been constructed.

What is a 'Jump Cut'?
This is when an object in the film may seem big, but we don't see what the object is until the camera shows us the object and its small, as a joke.

What is a 'Flash Back' and what does it achieve?
It takes the audience from one point of time to another. Its used to to show back story of someone's life before, and how it is now.

How can editing be used poetically?

When the camera dissolves through then it pans across to the audience to work out what is going on in the scene.
