Introduction To Edting

What is Editing?
Selcting from different shots and joining them together to show a story.

What is Elliptical Editing?
Filling in the gaps, moving the story on quickly withut us seeing the actual parts.

Why are Long Shots used?
Its used so that it reminds us where she is and tells us she's alone.

What is Non- Diagetic Sound?
Music playing in the background. Only the viewers can hear this sound and not the character.

How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring?
We see a close-up shot of her looking down slowly, then the camera does a quick close-up shot of the ring on the floor. After that, the camera goes back to her, showing a close-up of her face.


Hustle
'Overhead Establishing Shot'- What does it achieve?
The man standing up and the group of people sitting down around the table shows what kind of status the guy standing up has. It also shows the setting of the place and it shows them having a conversation.

What is 'Shot-Reverse Shot'?
Cutting back and forth during a converstation.

What is 'Eye-Line Matching'?
Looking directly at their eyes when talking during a conversation.

Why do we cut to the other members of the group?
So that we can see their faces and their reactions.

What is 'Wipe'?
A transition moving diagonally from one side of the screen to the other. It then shows a different location or scene.

What is the effect of using 'Quick Cuts'?
Having different shots, moving the story along quickly, keeping the viewers entertained.
